Canadiens Rumors: Insider Links Jeff Petry to New Team

Although Jeff Petry was recently traded back to the Montreal Canadiens, he is not expected to stay there very long. NHL insider Chris Johnston recently suggested that the Dallas Stars could be a landing spot for the veteran defenseman.

We also recently argued that the Stars could be a possible trade destination for Petry, and it ultimately makes sense. The Stars have been on the hunt for a top-four right-shot defenseman all offseason, and Petry's cap hit can drop significantly if the Canadiens retain some of his salary. Furthermore, the Stars had an interest in Petry before he was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins last year.

The Stars could use another puck-moving defenseman, so it makes sense that Petry is starting to stand out as a real trade candidate for them.

In 61 games this past season with the Penguins, Petry posted five goals to go along with 31 points and a plus-2 rating.
