Canadiens Rumors: Latest on Casey DeSmith's Future in Montreal

According to Renaud Lavoie, Montreal Canadiens general  manager Kent Hughes has asked recent acquisition Casey DeSmith to be patient. He also noted that the Canadiens could trade DeSmith or make another move to help open a spot for DeSmith on their roster.

DeSmith's name has picked up a lot of steam in the rumor mill, and it is very easy to understand why. The Canadiens already have a tandem of Jake Allen and Sam Montembeault heading into the new season. With that, Cayden Primeau will also be fighting for an NHL job. Thus, it makes sense that DeSmith could be dealt.

However, it also would make just as much sense if they moved a goalie like Allen instead. He has the higher cap hit after all, and he struggled this past season.

We will need to wait and see what the Canadiens end up doing with DeSmith and the rest of their goalies from here. We should expect a move of some kind before the start of the 2023-24 season for sure.
