Canadiens Rumors: Latest on Paul Byron's Playing Future
While speaking to reporters, Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes said that he expects veteran forward Paul Byron to retire and that he will speak to him in September.
At the end of the 2022-23 campaign, Byron was not still not cleared to return to action, and he of course missed the entirety of it. During the previous campaign, he was limited to only 27 games, so the 34-year-old forward has missed a ton of time.
If this ends up being the end of Byron's career, he put together a solid one. In 521 career games over 12 seasons split between the Buffalo Sabres, Calgary Flames, and Montreal Canadiens, Byron has 98 goals, 110 assists, and 208 points. However, he has his most success after being claimed by the Canadiens off of waivers.
Nevertheless, we will need to keep an eye out for an official retirement announcement from Byron before the season starts.
