Capitals' Alex Ovechkin Shares Thoughts on Spencer Carbery Hiring
During a recent interview with Mikhail Zislis of Sport-Express, Washington Capitals superstar forward Alex Ovechkin said that he is pleased with the club's head coach hiring of Spencer Carbery.
Ovechkin specifically noted that he likes that Carbery was with their AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears, so he has a strong understanding of the franchise.
A coaching change seemed very likely after how poorly the Capitals' 2022-23 season went. As a result, the Capitals and former head coach Peter Laviolette mutually parted ways back in April, and he has since found a new home with the New York Rangers. This of course opened the door to Carbery's hire.
It is excellent for the Capitals that Ovechkin approves of the Carbery hiring, as he is the face of their franchise and their most important player. Let's see if this coaching change can get the Capitals back on track during the 2023-24 campaign from here.
