Carolina Hurricanes Rumors: Brady Skjei Becoming Trade Candidate

After signing Caleb Jones, the Carolina Hurricanes have a surplus of NHL-caliber defensemen. This had led to speculation about the possibility of them moving out one, and Brady Skjei is the latest Hurricane to pick up some steam in the rumor mill.

Skjei is entering the final season of his contract and certainly has improved his trade value after his strong 2022-23 season. In 81 games played he scored an impressive 18 goals (a new career high) and posted 38 points. Due to this, the Hurricanes could look to take advantage of his heightened value. This is especially so if they do not believe that they can ink him to a contract extension before he is eligible to hit free agency next summer.

Skjei is a steady top-four defenseman who just about every team in the league would love to have. It will be interesting to see if the Hurricanes end up shopping him, but he is a player who we should keep an eye on. The same can of course be said about right-shot defenseman Brett Pesce.
