Carolina Hurricanes to Sign Caleb Jones

According to Luke Fox of Sportsnet, the Carolina Hurricanes are signing Caleb Jones to a one-year, just above league minimum deal.

Jones was one of the top defensemen still left on the free-agent market, so it was only a matter of time before he would find a new home. Now, he has found one with the Hurricanes, and the club has improved their already-strong defensive depth even further.

When looking at the Hurricanes' current defensive group, it is likely that Jones will serve as their seventh defenseman. This is, of course, if the Hurricanes don't trade any of their defensemen before the start of the season. Keep in mind, Brett Pesce has been the talk of the town in the rumor mill.

In 73 games this past season with the Chicago Blackhawks, Jones had four goals to go along with 16 points.

Overall, this is a good and cheap signing by the Hurricanes.
