Former Top Prospect Evgeny Svechnikov Finds New Home
Evgeny Svechnikov has found a new home, as Ak Bars Kazan of the KHL has announced that they signed the winger to a two-year contract.
With this move, Svechnikov's NHL career is over, well at least for now. The 2015 first-round pick was viewed as having a lot of potential, but he just was not able to hit - hence this move to the KHL. However, if he impresses back in Russia, perhaps it could open the door for him to receive an NHL offer later down the road.
Svechnikov spent this past season with the San Jose Sharks, where he posted five goals to go along with 14 points in 59 games. Overall, it was a fairly quiet year for the 26-year-old, and it resulted in the Sharks not sending him another contract.
Svechnikov should be a solid contributor to Ak Bars Kazan, and it will be interesting to see how much of an impact he can make for them offensively from here.
