Montreal Canadiens Rumors: Forward Becoming Trade Candidate

The Montreal Canadiens have a surplus of forwards, and it could lead to them making a move before the start of the season. One player who is starting to pick up some steam in the rumor mill because of this is Jake Evans.

The Canadiens' center depth is looking quite strong heading into the new year, and they could look to move Evans to help improve their roster elsewhere because of it. Keep in mind, they have Nick Suzuki, Alex Newhook, Christian Dvorak, and Sean Monahan as options for down the middle.

Evans would be more than just a rental if any team acquires him, as he carries a $1.7 million cap hit until the completion of the 2024-25 season.

Evans would be a nice addition for a team looking to improve their bottom six. With that, he has emerged as a solid penalty killer, and that naturally adds to his appeal.

We will need to wait and see if the Canadiens decide to part ways with Evans before the start of the season.
