Montreal Canadiens Trade Jeff Petry to Detroit Red Wings

The Montreal Canadiens have traded Jeff Petry to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for Gustav Lindstrom and a 2025 conditional fourth-round pick. The Canadiens are also retaining an additional 50%  of Petry's salary ($2.34 million cap hit)

The Canadiens acquired Petry as a part of the Erik Karlsson blockbuster, but he was not expected to stay long. Now, the Michigan native is heading to his hometown team with the Red Wings.

This is just the latest notable addition that the Red Wings have made to their group this summer. Their defensive group is looking a lot stronger on paper, as they added Shayne Gostisbehere, Justin Holl, and now Petry. Petry is likely to see top-four minutes and power-play time moving forward.

Lindstrom, on the other hand, will now have the chance to play for a rebuilding squad with the Canadiens. This, in turn, could lead to him getting more minutes. In 36 games this past season with the Red Wings, the 24-year-old had one goal, eight points, and a minus-16 rating.
