NHL Rumors: Sam Gagner Becoming PTO Target for Former Team
Sam Gagner is one of the most recognizable free-agent forwards still on the market. With it being mid-August, it seems likely that he will need to settle for a PTO. Due to this, there have been rumblings that the Edmonton Oilers could look to bring in Gagner on a PTO.
Gagner spent the beginning of his career as an Oiler, as he was selected with the sixth-overall pick of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He went on to spend nine seasons with the club, posting 111 goals and 317 points in 542 games. Now, there seems to be a chance that the Oilers could bring him in on a tryout.
Gagner spent this past season with the Winnipeg Jets, where he had eight goals to go along with 14 points in 48 games played. It was a bit of a quiet year for the veteran forward, but he still has the potential to be a possible bottom-six forward with the Oilers if he earns himself a contract.
We will need to wait and see if the Oilers and Gagner reunite on a PTO from here.
