Report: Arizona Coyotes Sign Matt Dumba & Continue to Add Value

The Arizona Coyotes continue to add to their team in an attempt to turn the tides and get back into the playoffs. This time they have agreed to a one-year, $4 million AAV deal with Matt Dumba, who will slot into the top-four on the blue line.

Dumba is a right defense, so this will either force Troy Stecher or Josh Brown to be limited in playing time on the right side. Dumba has logged well over 20 minutes a night for seven consecutive seasons, so this pickup is a big boost to the relatively inexperienced and weaker defense. Among the other defensemen expected to be on the Coyotes' roster, only J.J. Moser played 20+ minutes per night last season.

This gives Dumba a good opportunity to once again solidify himself as a great top-four defenseman and overcome recent injury troubles. He hits, blocks shots, and is a tough player. If things don't work out for the Coyotes as intended, he can easily be dealt at the deadline with a 50% cap hit of $2 million AAV for the remainder of the season.
