San Jose Sharks Rumors: Alexander Barabanov Named as Trade Target

The San Jose Sharks are in a clear rebuild, and the Erik Karlsson blockbuster trade is only the latest example of this. Yet, another move seems quite possible, as Alexander Barabanov was listed as a trade target on The Athletic's most recent trade board.

Barabanov picked up some steam in the rumor mill before the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline passed, but the Sharks elected to keep him. However, now that he is entering the final season of his contract and will be eligible to be a UFA next summer, they may be more open to the prospect of moving him this season.

Barabanov is a solid middle-six forward, and he is coming off of the best season of his career. In 68 games played on the year, the 29-year-old winger posted 15 goals to go along with 47 points - both new career highs.

It will be interesting to see if the Sharks decide to move on from Barabanov this campaign, but when noting that he is one of their top trading assets and they are rebuilding, it surely seems possible.
