Washington Capitals Rumors: Forward Still Being Shopped
The Washington Capitals have been looking to free up cap space before the start of the 2023-24 season. As a result of this, they are still actively shopping winger Anthony Mantha.
Mantha struggled this past season with the Capitals, where he posted 11 goals to go along with 27 points in 67 games played. It was a down year for the 28-year-old winger's standards, and a change of scenery may be what he needs to get his production back up during the 2023-24 season.
The biggest obstacle in a Mantha trade is his expensive $5.7 million cap hit. It is extremely unlikely that a team would be willing to take on Mantha's contract without landing a sweetener or two. However, there are rebuilding teams who could be willing to do this because of it.
The Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks are two teams who stand out as clubs who could be willing to take a shot on Mantha. If he turned things back around next season, he would improve his trade value and be a decent rental candidate at the deadline in the process.
We will need to wait and see if the Caps can find a new home for Mantha before the start of the season from here.
