3 Calgary Flames Captain Candidates
At the time of this writing, there are eight teams currently without captains for the 2023-24 season. As a result of this, over the next few days, we here at NHLTR will be starting a mini-series going over three captain candidates for each of these clubs.
In this latest edition of the series, we will be focusing on the Calgary Flames.
Mikael Backlund: Mikael Backlund has spent his entire 15-year and 908-game NHL career as a Flame, so he naturally stands out as a possible captain for the club. Although he is entering the final year of his deal, it would be a nice gesture to give him the C in what could be his final campaign as a Flame.
Elias Lindholm: If Elias Lindholm signs an extension with the Flames, he will likely be the frontrunner for the captaincy. He has become a big leader in their locker room and is their top center. Due to this, don't be surprised if he is in the mix.
Rasmus Andersson: Rasmus Andersson openly stated that he would love to be captain of the Flames and when noting that he is a crucial part of their group, he surely should be considered.
