It's a two year deal for the longest-serving Flame, and comes with a $4.5M AAV.
This is a huge turnaround from just two weeks ago, when the two sides hadn't even begun negotiations.
The news of Backlund's impending signing coincides with him being named the Flames' new Captain as well, a position that's been vacant for the past two seasons.
The 33-year-old center has played 908 games with Calgary, notching 185 goals and 492 points. He was entering the final season of his six-year deal that carried a $5.35M cap hit.
