Bruins Name Brad Marchand Next Captain

The Boston Bruins follow suit with a number of other teams and name the next captain of their team, Brad Marchand. Unlike some of the other teams who have been without a captain, Marchand is named the offseason after Patrice Bergeron announced his retirement.

Marchand will be heading into his 15th season with the Bruins and has served as an assistant captain since 2018-19. He was the obvious choice as he is a great leader for the team and a veteran who is still expected to be around for at least two more seasons.

He has some big shoes to fill, but knows the Bruins well enough to be able to do a great job. Teams have been following a trend of not necessarily naming their superstar as captain this offseason, but Marchand was definitely a superstar for a number of years and willing to do what he could to help the Bruins.

Marchand and the Bruins have an uphill battle after all of the turnover this offseason, but will still try and find a way to band together and have an unexpected year like 2022-23.
