Calgary Flames Sign Defenseman to PTO

The Calgary Flames have made a small move, signing Jonathan Aspirot to a professional tryout (PTO) contract.

Aspirot, 24, spent all of last season in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Belleville Senators, where he had five goals, 16 points, and 65 penalty minutes in 43 games.

Aspirot is unlikely to compete for a spot on the Flames' opening night roster, but he certainly could be a solid depth player in their system if signed. It is important to note that he offers marvelous versatility, as he can play both defense and on the wing. Due to this, he would be good to have around as a possible call-up if the Flames have several injuries during the season.

Although this is a small move, it will be interesting to see if he can earn himself a two-way deal from the Flames from here. At worst, he will simply give them more depth for the preseason.
