Former 1st-Rounder Looking For PTO After 1 Year in Europe

After a year spent plying his trade in Europe, former Buffalo Sabres 1st-round pick in 2008 (26th overall), Tyler Ennis is looking to return to the NHL with a professional tryout contract. The 13-year veteran spent last season in Switzerland.

Edmonton Journal reporter Jim Matheson reports that Ennis has been working out at Perry Pearn's 3 on 3 camp in his hometown of Edmonton, and "might get" a PTO, possibly from a Western-based team.

Ennis played in Edmonton for a year+ from 2020 to 2021. He spent the first eight years of his career with Buffalo, and netted 20+ goals on three different occasions. Unfortunately, injuries derailed his progress as an NHLer after that, and after leaving the Queen City, he also made stops with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Ottawa Senators and Minnesota Wild.

With SC Bern in Switzerland last year, Ennis was able to recapture some high-level production for the first time in years, potting 13 goals and 33 points in 37 games. He's still keeping his Swiss options open if an NHL opportunity doesn't come about.

In 700 career games, he has 144 goals, 202 assists and 346 points in an average of 15 minutes of ice time per night.
