Lightning Rumors: 5 Goalie Options to Replace Vasilevskiy

The Tampa Bay Lightning were given brutal injury news, as Andrei Vasilevskiy will be out for the next eight to 10 weeks. With an inexperienced Jonas Johansson being next in line on the Lightning's depth chart, they are likely to consider some other backup options before the start of the season. Let's discuss three potential targets now.

Jaroslav Halak: The Lightning could look to bring in veteran goaltender Jaroslav Halak for some added depth. Although he is primarily a backup at this point of his career, he still has the potential to get the job done with a strong defensive group in front of him. With that, he does not want to retire and is looking to win his 300th career NHL game.

Dan Vladar: With Dustin Wolf ready to make the jump to the NHL, Dan Vladar has been the subject of trade speculation. Now, there could be a potential trade match for the Calgary Flames in the Lightning. Vladar would give Tampa a more experienced goalie to work with if acquired.

Brian Elliott: The Lightning could also consider calling former netminder Brian Elliott. He was their backup over the past two seasons and is still a free agent at the time of this writing.

Vancouver Canucks goalie Spencer Martin was also placed on waivers today (Sep. 28), while Martin Jones could suffer the same fate in the near future, as the Toronto Maple Leafs will likely have Joseph Woll be their backup.
