NHL Rumors: Latest On Alexander Edler's Playing Future
Veteran defenseman Alexander Edler is still a free agent with one month until the start of the regular season. Some have naturally wondered if a retirement announcement could be on the way, but all speculation on that front should be pushed aside, at least for now. According to Jeff Paterson, Edler still hopes to play during the 2023-24 season.
heard today that Alex Edler still hopes to play this season. Certainly hasn't retired at this point. But doesn't have a contract and no PTO at this stage. We'll see where it goes https://t.co/HV8U3tdJNa

Edler, 37, spent last season with the Los Angeles Kings. In 64 games played, he had two goals to go along with 11 points. Overall, it was a fairly quiet season for the veteran.
.
Although Edler's days as a top-four defenseman are over, he still has the potential to be a decent bottom-pairing or depth defenseman. Due to this, it is possible that we end up seeing him find a new home before the start of the season.
We will need to wait and see if Edler's wishes to continue his career ends up coming to fruition from here.
