Penguins Rumors: Latest On Possible Pittsburgh & Kessel Reunion

Rumblings of a potential Phil Kessel and Pittsburgh Penguins reunion have picked up some steam as of late. However, according to Dave Molinari of Pittsburgh Hockey Now, a reunion between Kessel and the Penguins is unlikely. This is because the Penguins want a grittier bottom six, and Kessel simply does not fit that style.

Kessel has made it known that he is willing to end his Ironman streak if needed to earn a contract for the 2023-24 season. That should help him find a home before the start of the season, but it appears that the Penguins are not the best fit at this time.

Kessel appeared in 82 games last season with the Vegas Golden Knights, scoring 14 goals and posting 36 points. Overall, he can still provide some offense in a bottom-six role, and it will be fun to se where he ends up going. However, it's safe to take off the Penguins from that list.
