Stars Rumors: Free-Agent Signing Listed as 2023-24 Trade Candidate

In a recent article from The Athletic, several writers picked one player from each NHL team who could be traded before the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. For the Dallas Stars, Saad Yousuf wrote Sam Steel for the club's option.

Steel, 25, was signed by the Stars this offseason and will be fighting for a spot in their bottom six. He spent last season with the Minnesota Wild, where he had 10 goals, 18 assists, and 28 (all new career highs) in 65 games. However, this was not enough for the Wild to bring him back.

Yousuf wrote that top prospects Logan Stankoven and Mavrik Bourque could force their way onto the NHL roster, which would make Steel expendable.

We will need to wait and see if Steel gets moved by the Stars during the season, but the potential seems to be there when looking at how strong the Stars' forward depth is.
