Tim Stützle Reveals His True Feelings On DeBrincat Bolting Senators

Tim Stützle showed where his loyalties were last summer when he agreed to an 8-year extension to stay with the Ottawa Senators long-term. And he didn't hold back his feelings on Alex DeBrincat deciding to bolt the Sens for greener (or redder, in this case) pastures.

"If you don't want to be there, then good luck on your way," said Stützle about DeBrincat forcing a trade out of Ottawa, to the Detroit Red Wings.

The Senators' 90-point man was speaking to to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek. “If he doesn’t want to be there, I don’t want to make him have to be there. You know, like, that’s fine to us."

Stützle would rather focus on the guys that do want to be in Canada's capital. And there are plenty of them.

“I think you can just tell those guys who signed long-term, they really want to be here. And yeah, that’s the biggest part for us.”

In addition to Stutzle, Thomas ChabotJakob Chychrun, Brady Tkachuk, and most recently Jake Sanderson have all signed anywhere from six- to eight-year deals over the past few years to remain a Senator well into the future.

DeBrincat signed a four-year deal with Detroit after the trade (which is, to be fair, his hometown team).
