Boston Bruins Call Up Reinforcements As Milan Lucic Out For Multiple Weeks

His reunion season with the Boston Bruins is off to a tough start, as veteran winger Milan Lucic suffered a lower-body injury after blocking a shot last weekend. Now head coach Jim Montgomery has confirmed that in addition to the couple of games he's already missed this week, Lucic will sit out at least two more weeks.

Complicating matters for the Bruins is that center Jakub Lauko will also miss at least the next week with a fracture suffered from taking a skate blade to his face Tuesday night.

The injuries have led to the callup of Jesper Boqvist, Ian Mitchell and Patrick Brown from Providence of the AHL. For Mitchell, it's been a whirlwind 24 hours, as he was waived on Wednesday, cleared, then sent down to Providence, before getting called up Thursday.

As for Lucic, the 35-year-old began his career as a second-round pick of the Bruins back in 2006. He spent his first eight seasons in the league in Beantown, racking up four of his five career 20-goal seasons, and helping them to the Stanley Cup in 2011. Expectations are lower this time around as he rejoined the Bruins after eight years with the Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames. He hasn't had more than 10 goals in a season since 2017. Thus far, he's registered two assists in four games in his Boston reunion.
