Bruins Sign High-Scoring Defense Prospect

The Boston Bruins have come to terms with their high-scoring defense prospect selected in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, signing Frederic Brunet to an ELC.

Brunet was signed to a 3-year entry level deal with an NHL cap hit of $860,000 per season.

The 20-year-old 6'3" blueliner piled up an impressive 16 goals and 57 assists for 73 points in 66 games in the QMJHL this past season—good for 2nd among all defensemen in the Q. He also had a plus-10 rating, splitting his season between the Rimouski Oceanic and the Victoriaville Tigres.

He was a 5th-round selection by the Bruins in the 2022 Draft, but has picked up his pedigree status since then.

The Bruins signed Brunet to their AHL affiliate in Providence a few days back, and he'll likely spend the season there. He got into one game with the AHL club late last season and flashed a snippet of what to expect, as he notched two assists.

One prospect watch website wrote of Brunet“With an ever-growing offensive game and strong leadership abilities, Brunet could be a name to watch after some more time to develop. If Brunet ever gets a chance on an NHL blueline, he has the tools to contribute."
