Canadiens Provide Update On Mike Matheson
Montreal Canadiens defenseman Mike Matheson left Saturday's (Oct. 28) game against the Winnipeg Jets early due to a lower-body injury. Although there was natural concern about his condition, the Canadiens have announced that he will only be out day-to-day.
Matheson is the Canadiens' top defenseman this season and has been off to an outstanding start for them. In eight games so far, he has two goals to go along with six points. Now, his hot streak will need to be put on pause, but thankfully, he will not be out for much time at all.
The Canadiens have been dealing with some injury trouble on the blue line, so this Matheson injury is not ideal. However, assuming there are no setbacks in his recovery, things could have been a lot worse.
In 48 games last season with the Canadiens, Matheson scored eight goals to go along with 34 points. Expect him to pass these totals in 2023-24 once he is good to go.
