Canadiens Rumors: David Savard Becoming Trade Candidate
According to Marco D'Amico, Montreal Canadiens defenseman David Savard could garner interest at the trade deadline this season.
The Canadiens are rebuilding, so they are expected to be among the NHL's most active sellers at the deadline. As a result, it would not be too far-fetched to think that Savard could be made available this season. He is in the third season of a four-year contract and has zero trade protection, so he can be moved with ease.
Savard would be a strong addition to a playoff team looking to improve the right side of their defensive group. This is because he plays a physical game, kills penalties, and can produce some offense as well.
We will need to wait and see if Montreal moves the right-shot defenseman later this season from here. When noting that he is a veteran defenseman, the Canadiens could look to move him, as he may not fit into their long-term plans.
