Capitals Already Had Enough Of Anthony Mantha

While the Washington Capitals appeared to be trying to give Anthony Mantha a shot on the top line this season to somehow get him going in the final year of his contract, it looks like he has already greatly disappointed and is being healthy scratched in just the second game of the season.

The Capitals were shut out in their first game and Mantha only played under 12 minutes. He was very solid for the Detroit Red Wings back before he was traded to the Capitals and it has never worked out. For a good while now, the Capitals have been trying to trade him or get rid of him somehow. They are a team in transition, but still trying to stay competitive as long as Alex Ovechkin chases the goals record.

In 119 games with the Capitals, Mantha has just 24 goals and 58 points. While on the Red Wings earlier in his career, he scored at least 24 goals in a season twice. The once highly regarded power forward desperately needs a change in scenery, but with no takers and the Capitals not being Stanley Cup contenders, he's bound to finish out the final year of his deal. Replacing Mantha in the lineup will be Aliaksei Protas.
