Flames Rumors: Chris Tanev Becoming Trade Candidate

The Calgary Flames have had a brutal start to the season. If things do not turn around quickly, they are likely to be sellers at the deadline. With defenseman Chris Tanev being on an expiring deal and being a veteran, he is starting to emerge as a potential trade candidate.

If made available, Tanev would likely generate some interest. This is because he is an effective defensive defenseman while playing at his best, and playoff teams also need that. It also does not hurt that he has a lot of overall experience.

Tanev's current contract gives him some trade protection, as he has a 10-team no-trade list. However, there is also still plenty of room to move him. With that, interest in him would increase if the Flames retain some of his salary in a potential move.
