Flyers Trade Candidate Travis Konecny Should Be Picking Up Steam

The way John Tortorella coaches, there is no clear top line on the team. With the lack of scoring also in the lineup, he has spread out the scoring as well. Unfortunately for the best forward on the team, Travis Konecny, that means playing on the third line.

His linemates are Noah Cates and Scott Laughton, which is typical for the third line, but Konecny should be playing in the top-six. He leads the team through two games with three goals and four points and had a strong 2022-23 season as well. The Flyers are still in a position where they won't make the playoffs and should be finishing near the bottom of the standings to get high draft picks.

While the Flyers might not get a lottery pick because of how Tortorella has them playing, they should still be sellers at the deadline again. This time they need to do much better than last season. Kevin Hayes, Ivan Provorov, and Tony DeAngelo were already moved out in the offseason while there are more trade candidates that continue to come up for the Flyers. Leading the way is Konecny, Carter Hart, and Laughton.

Konecny is in the prime of his career and producing with very little help around him. He has this year and next year before becoming a UFA and he's on a very good contract at the moment ($5.5 million AAV). The Flyers will be able to get a first round pick at the very least for him and it would get them to three first round picks in the upcoming draft. I would ask for much more in return for Konecny on that contract and how he plays, and that is a way that the team is going to speed up the rebuild.
