Maple Leafs Trade Sam Lafferty to Canucks
The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded forward Sam Lafferty to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a 2024 fifth-round pick.
Lafferty, 28, was expected to be in the Maple Leafs' bottom six this season, but they clearly have changed their plans with the preseason over. The versatile forward will now be a nice part of the Canucks' bottom six.
The Maple Leafs acquired Lafferty from the Chicago Blackhawks last season before the deadline. In 70 games last season split between the two teams, he had 12 goals to go along with 27 points and 125 hits. Overall, it was a solid season for him, and now he will be looking to replicate it as a Canuck from here.
Nevertheless, the Maple Leafs cleared out some cap space with this move, while the Canucks have added to their forward depth. We will need to wait and see how much of an impact Lafferty can make for the Canucks in 2023-24 from here.
