NHL Rumors: Latest On Eric Staal's Playing Future
In a recent article for The Athletic, Chris Johnston reported that Eric Staal received interest from a Canadian team before training camp, but the veteran center passed on the offer. However, he also noted that Staal is not ready to retire.
Johnston also reported that Staal is currently at his home in Minnesota with his family, and a decision on his playing future will be determined with his family in mind.
Staal showed last season that he can still be an effective NHL forward, and this was after he missed the entire 2021-22 season. In 72 games with the Florida Panthers, he had 14 goals and 29 points while primarily playing fourth-line minutes. That's not bad production in that role.
We will need to wait and see if Staal ends up continuing his career from here, but it appears quite possible that he does.
