NHL Rumors: Sharks & Bruins Trade Coming this Season?

The 2023-24 NHL season has yet to drop the puck and already, there's been a couple of teams linked to a major trade. There's been some rumblings from a few different sources suggesting the Boston Bruins are going to be watching the San Jose Sharks forward group like a hawk.

The Bruins are trying to move on without Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci down the middle, meanwhile don't necessarily have the type of centre depth needed to make the change seamless. There's a chance the B's will have to make a major trade this season and the likes of Logan Couture and Tomas Hertl of the Sharks could be two players on top of their wish list.

Adding both? Seems out of the question just based on money, but if Boston had to choose one to acquire, it's likely Hertl who is five years younger, but makes $8.13 million over $8 million of Couture.

Both players have trade protection. Hertl's is a full no-movement clause for this season and next, he's signed through the 2029-30 season. Meanwhile Couture is under contract through the 2026-27 season and he submits a list of just three teams he'd be willing to play for.

The Bruins have Jeremy Swayman in net who could be of interest to Sharks GM Mike Grier, but it's likely the package would include high draft picks and high-end prospects. The Sharks are in full rebuild mode and are looking to the future.

Boston on the other hand is trying to stay on top in the East and know they have their work cut out for them this season and are going to need some new additions to once again reign supreme.
