Red Wings Make Decision With Michael Hutchinson

The Detroit Red Wings have released goaltender Michael Hutchinson from his professional tryout (PTO) contract.
Hutchinson was looking to earn a contract and be in the mix to be a goalie for the Red Wings’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins. The veteran goalie will not be getting a deal from the NHL squad, but it has also been announced that he has now signed a PTO with the Griffins. Thus, an AHL deal could still be in the cards.

At this point in his career, Hutchinson is an AHL goalie who can be a decent depth option to have for when injuries arise. When noting that injuries often occur, it certainly is possible that we could see him find a home before the start of the season if he does not get a deal from the Griffins.

Hutchinson appeared in 16 games last season with the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he had a 2-6-3 record, a .877 SV%, and a 4.29 GAA.

We will need to wait and see if Hutchinson lands a contract this season from here.
