Sabres Sign Franchise Defenseman Rasmus Dahlin To Massive Deal

The Buffalo Sabres have signed another one of their great young pieces as Rasmus Dahlin has earned an eight-year, $11 million AAV extension.

The 23-year-old former first overall pick was set to become a RFA at the end of this season and currently has a cap hit of $6 million. At such a young age, he was just able to score 15 goals and 73 points in 78 games. He led the team in ice time and dominates all over the ice.

Dahlin's cap hit comes in at much higher than the other long-term contracts they have signed recently, but $11 million AAV for what he provides the team for the long haul seems worth it. He will be signed for some very key years in Buffalo and will be signed through his prime. He is one of the best defensemen in the league already and he is only going to get much better. The Sabres made the smart move in locking him up as soon as possible before he has yet another year to get even better.
