San Jose Sharks Offseaon Acquisition Goes On IR After Just One Game

Mikael Granlund's stint with the San Jose Sharks has been marred by an unfortunate turn of events.

After initially missing a portion of the preseason due to a lower-body injury, Granlund returned to action but re-aggravated the same injury during the season opener against the Vegas Golden Knights.

This setback has forced the Sharks to place him on the injured reserve list, casting uncertainty over his return timeline.

The team will have to make do without him for at least the next three games, leaving them with a challenge at the center position, especially with Logan Couture also dealing with a lower-body injury.

Head Coach David Quinn expressed concern about Granlund's physical condition, as he appeared to be playing through pain and not performing at his usual level during the game.

To address this situation, the Sharks may consider moving Luke Kunin from the wing to bolster their center position, which has become understaffed due to the injuries.

Additionally, the team may need to make a recall from their AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda, to ensure they have sufficient depth in Granlund's absence.
