When it was announced that Thomson was placed on waivers, it seemed far more likely than not that he would be claimed. This is because he was the Senators' first-round pick in 2019, and he still has the potential to be an impactful player. Now, he will be hoping that this change of scenery is the push he needs to take that next step in his development.
Thomson, 23, appeared in two games last season with the Senators, where he had a minus-2 rating. With the Belleville Senators of the AHL, he had seven goals to go along with 33 points in 56 games. Overall, it was a solid year for the prospect.
Alas, the Senators have now lost one of their former top prospects for nothing through the waiver wire. Let's see if Thomson ends up being a strong addition to the Ducks' roster from here.
