That "Other" Maple Leafs Pending UFA "Definitely" Has Plans For His Future

While all eyes in Toronto are focused on what the future holds for pending unrestricted free agent William Nylander, the Maple Leafs' "other" pending UFA hasn't gotten much attention. But top defenseman T.J. Brodie is also playing out the last year of his contract, with no new deal in sight.

According to Luke Fox of Sportsnet, "Brodie has been Toronto's most consistent and reliable defender since arriving to the city in 2020, when then-Flames GM Brad Treliving let him walk out of Calgary as a free agent. (Reminder: Treliving was ready to trade Brodie to the Leafs for Nazem Kadri in 2019, but Kadri nixed the deal.)"

Will Treliving let Brodie walk as a free agent for the second time in four years?

The 33-year-old blueliner says there have been no discussions about an extension to this point.

"No," Brodie says. "It's one of those things where I'm just focused on day to day, and I'm not too worried about anything like that."

Yes, he says he "definitely" would like to re-sign with the Leafs, but it sounds like he isn't going to let it affect him this season.

Brodie is back on the team's top pairing this fall with Morgan Rielly.
