Very Latest on Phil Kessel's NHL Future
Phil Kessel is still waiting at home for a new contract while the 2023-24 NHL season is two weeks old. The NHL"s iron man isn't worried about his streak anymore and is open to sign with just about any team, even if it means he has to battle it out for his ice time.
At 36 years old, Kessel knows that the end may be near but he's not willing to hang up the skates just yet. The veteran winger can still provide some secondary scoring on a contending team and is coming off a 36-point season with the Cup winning Vegas Golden Knights.
So where does Phil the Thrill land? According to hockey insider Chris Johnston, Kessel was not interested in joining any team on a PTO for training camp, because we all know Kessel hates training camp. Johnston scribes Kessel is itching to play and is hopeful a deal gets done soon.
The likes of the Buffalo Sabres, Nashville Predators and Winnipeg Jets could have interest in the coming weeks and this will be something to monitor. Kessel's been known to be a great teammate and a nice light-hearted personality in the dressing room so it won't be long before he signs on with another team, in what could be his final season in the show.
