Zack MacEwen & Others Placed On Waivers
Zack MacEwen (Ottawa Senators), Jansen Harkins (Pittsburgh Penguins), and Radek Simek (San Jose Sharks) have all been placed on waivers.
MacEwen is an intriguing name to see hit the waiver wire so early in the season. The Sens signed the gritty forward to a three-year contract during the offseason, with the expectation that he would provide toughness to their fourth line. Yet, now he is on waivers, and teams looking to get tougher could consider bringing him in.
Harkins was claimed off waivers by the Penguins from the Winnipeg Jets before the start of the season, but now his time in Pittsburgh could be coming to a close. The Jets could very well scoop him back up, but there also could be other clubs interested if Winnipeg does not.
San Jose was initially going to put Kevin Labanc on waivers, but Simek has put been in the wire instead. His $2.25 million cap hit likely won't lead to a waiver claim, but crazier things have happened.
