Avalanche Looking For More Depth Forwards
The Colorado Avalanche are already having flashbacks to what happened in the 2023 playoffs that got them eliminated in the first round. That team had a major problem with depth scoring and got absolutely nothing from their bottom-six. They went out and addressed that this summer by adding pieces that can not only put the puck in the back of the net from the bottom-six, but also play physically.
While those holes were addressed, Elliotte Friedman reported that the team is looking for depth scoring. Due to the injuries, the Avalanche are worried they may be thin at forward again. Calling players up from the minors to help with scoring isn't really an option because of how weak they are at that position. So with the long-term injury to Artturi Lehkonen and the injury to Logan O'Connor, it creates some panic.
There are only three forwards in the lineup with more than 10 points and only four with more than seven. While Ryan Johansen and Ross Colton have each scored six goals, Miles Wood, Jonathan Drouin, and Tomas Tatar have combined for just five. Options are going to start becoming available. Look to the teams that are struggling and need to make some moves. This could be the Avalanche's opportunity early, or they could wait. They are doing just fine right now in the standings, but can't have a repeat of last season's playoffs where the top line carried the offense.
