Canucks Rumors: Latest On Elias Pettersson Extension Talk

A big story out of Vancouver has been the ongoing extension talks with Canucks superstar center Elias Pettersson. However, according to Chris Johnston, Pettersson is not in any rush to get his new deal done, as he is waiting to see how much the salary cap goes up.

Pettersson's a restricted free agent at the end of the season, so that also plays a big role in Pettersson taking his time with his next deal. He is also eligible for arbitration this upcoming summer, as Johnston notes, so that, too, also impacts things.

There is absolutely no question that the Canucks are hoping to get Pettersson locked up sooner rather than later, but given this development, they made need to wait.

We will now need to wait and see what happens with the star forward from here, but given this update, it seems that a new deal will take a little bit of time at least.
