Capitals Provide Update On Nicklas Backstrom
While speaking with reporters, Washington Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan said that forward Nicklas Backstrom is unlikely to play again this season.
Backstrom notably took an indefinite leave of absence earlier this month due to lingering issues from his hip. Now, with this update from Backstrom, it is very likely that the Caps will not have Backstrom for the remainder of the season.
This is certainly tough news to hear, as Backstrom is one of the Caps' most important players. However, with Backstrom dealing with lingering issues, it is entirely understandable as to why he is taking this time away. Health should always come first.
In eight games this season with the Caps, Backstrom had one assist to go along with a minus-3 rating.
Here's to hoping that this time away helps with Backstrom's recovery and that we can see him return to action next season.
