Edmonton Oilers Rumors: New GM Already In the Works?
The Edmonton Oilers are a mess and if they don't turn things around soon, there's a very good chance they miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs. With Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid in the prime of their careers, that frankly shouldn't happen. Should GM Ken Holland keep his job? Sounds like some changes could be coming sooner than later.
According to Toronto Sun's Steve Simmons, the Oilers could already have a new GM in the works and it turns out one of the current Oilers knows them very well:
GM Ken Holland will be gone at the end of the season — his call — and I wouldn’t be surprised if Dave Gagner, whose son plays for the Oilers and is another former McDavid associate and a close Jackson friend, is brought in to be Oilers GM
Yes, after Sam Gagner made another triumphant return to the Oilers, turns out his dad could be joining the club in the future. If Holland is out, Simmons sees the elder Gagner being next in line. He was the 12th overall pick in the 1983 draft and played a total of 946 NHL games, recording 318 goals and 719 points.
Gagner played for seven organizations and finished up his career in 1998-99 with the Vancouver Canucks.
Gagner, now an agent, represents 25 players with active contracts, including Oilers in Greg McKegg, Connor Brown, and Evan Bouchard.
