Edmonton Oilers Rumors: Trading Jack Campbell Could Cost Multiple Draft Picks
The Edmonton Oilers have a Jack Campbell problem. The veteran goaltender is signed through the 2026-27 season at $5 million AAV and needless to say his 2023-24 season has gone off the rails as he's currently riding the bus in the AHL.
Campbell has struggled in the minors after his demotion, which has decreased his trade value tremendously and now Oilers GM Ken Holland is going to have to sweeten the pot in a major way if he wants to move on from Campbell's contract.
According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, the sweetener could be as high as a first and third-round pick to move on from Campbell and who knows what kind of return that will fetch the Oilers.
Campbell has posted a 1-4-0 record with a 4.50 GAA and a .873 Sv.% with the big club and in the minors with the Bakersfield Condors, it's been worse as he has yet to win a game and his underlying numbers include a 4.36 GAA and .819 Sv.%.
The Oilers are 5-11-1 on the season and sit with only 11 points, good for third worst in the entire NHL. Making the Stanley Cup Playoffs is going to be a tall task and there's no doubt GM Ken Holland is going to have to consider making some moves soon or else he'll be the next employee being let go.
"Is it worth trading away Jack Campbell so you get the cap hit off the books and give up a first rounder, or would you rather buy him out, and have the cap hit penalty for the next six seasons?"
