Former Canucks Prospect Arrested and Charged with Fraud


Vancouver Canucks former prospect Prab Rai was arrested on Tuesday as Surrey RCMP this week. The 34-year-old was charged with fraud over stating what his losses were on real estate investment properties, to the tune of several million dollars.

According to reports, the investigation began back in January of 2021 and the RCMP's Financial Crimes unit was able to put timelines on the crimes for between 2015-2018. Rai was arrested and charged with fraud over $5000.

Rai's not only dealing with criminal charges but also a civil suit as well which includes allegations that he screwed realtor Harpreet Singh Khlea out of close to $3 million. 

As for Rai's hockey career, he was drafted back in 2008 by the Canucks, 131st overall and the highest level he reached was the ECHL. His junior days were spent in the WHL with Prince George and Seattle, with his best season resulting in 69 points in 67 games in 2010. 

Rai finished his hockey career in 2015 thanks to lingering back issues and his post career included launching a custom suit and shirt company and allegedly real estate fraud.
