Hockey Insider Shuts Down Edmonton Oilers GM Rumors

It sounds like Edmonton Oilers fans will be waiting out this season if they are looking for a change at the GM position as after rumors starting surfacing about player agent Dave Gagner waiting in the wings, hockey insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed on the Hockey Night in Canada broadcast that Gagner is not interested in the position.

After firing Jay Woodcroft earlier this season, rumblings started surfacing that Ken Holland could be the next to go and considering Gagner's connection with Oilers CEO Jeff Jackson, the stars were starting to align. Turns out that's not the case at all.

The Toronto Sun's Steve Simmons was the first to link Gagner to the Oilers GM position but as Friedman mentioned, it's not an option as there's no interest from the NHL alum.

Gagner, the father of current Oiler Sam, was the 12th overall pick in the 1983 draft and played a total of 946 NHL games, recording 318 goals and 719 points. Gagner played for seven organizations and finished up his career in 1998-99 with the Vancouver Canucks. Gagner, now an agent, represents 25 players with active contracts, including Oilers in Greg McKegg, Connor Brown, and Evan Bouchard.
