Insider: Nazem Kadri Could Be Next Flames Player To Ask For Trade

The Calgary Flames seem to be progressing towards an all-out fire sale, as their dreadful start to the season is combined with the questionable futures of several impending unrestricted free agents. But if that happens, how do some other key players who are signed for the long haul in Calgary feel about it?

According to Darren Dreger on TSN's Insider Trading, Nazem Kadri wants to stay in Calgary, though with a big BUT...

Nazem Kadri... who signed that long-term deal as a free agent with the Calgary Flames, wants to stay in Calgary, wants to win with the Flames. But if the Flames as an organization progress to a rebuild, he's not interested in that.

With Kadri possibly the next in line to ask for a trade out of Calgary, Dreger adds that other established Flames players would be feeling the same way if a tear-down begins.

Kadri is an ultra-competitive player, and it makes sense that if the Flames are not in it to win it, he'd like to take his business elsewhere. The 33-year-old signed a 7-year, $49M contract as a free agent in the summer of 2022, with a Stanley Cup under his belt from his impact role with the Colorado Avalanche that spring.

He had somewhat of a disappointing first season in Calgary last year, dropping from 87 points down to 56, though that was still the third-best mark of his career, and he still notched his fifth 20-goal season with 24 markers.

This season, Kadri has notched 9 points in 15 games on 3 goals and 6 assists, with a minus-10 rating.
