Minnesota Wild Announce Big News On Captain Jared Spurgeon

The Minnesota Wild are finally getting their captain and top defenseman back. The team has officially activated Jared Spurgeon from LTIR and the 13-year veteran is ready to make his much-anticipated season debut.

Spurgeon has been recovering from an upper-body injury that he suffered during the preseason, and now the 13-year-veteran is expected to once again take his place alongside the hard-nosed Jake Middleton, and hopefully give a big boost to a struggling blueline.

The Captain has had back-to-back seasons of a robust +32 heading into this year, and he added 34 points in the 2022-23 campaign, playing just under 22 minutes a night. He'll add a steady hand and proven veteran to the Wild defense corps, which currently ranks 30th in the NHL in goals against per game (4.00) and 24th in shots against (32.46). Their PK% is dead-last in the league, at 65%.

The 33-year-old makes his season debut against the Buffalo Sabres Friday night.

The Wild have reassigned D-man Daemon Hunt to Iowa of the American Hockey League.
