New York Islanders Rumors: Trade Talks Heating Up

The New York Islanders have started the season with a 6-6-5 record and have won only two games in the past 10. There's growing speculation the team is considering making a major trade.

According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, there's certainly a chance the Islanders touch base with the Calgary Flames about one of their pending unrestricted free-agent defensemen. The likes of Chris Tanev, Nikita Zadorov and Noah Hanifin are all available on the trade market as Flames GM Craig Conroy has admitted his team is open for business.

As far as what the price could be, young forward Oliver Wahlstrom is likely a person of interest for other teams as the 23-year-old hasn't necessarily found his game on Long Island and could use a change of scenery.

There's also been reports from The Athletic's Arthur Staple who cited the cost could be too costly for the Isles as Staple feels the price of a first rounder and top prospect is too much for an impact player.

Regardless, it's going to take a ton of creativity from Lou Lamoriello as the Islanders only have just under $700,000 in cap space and a bunch of holes to fill.
